CC BY-NC 4.0.Our group’s first biohybrid research paper, “An anoxygenic photosynthesis-inspired dual biohybrid for light-enhanced chemical production,” has been published in Science Advances! Congratulations to Ying Yang, Zipeng Zhu, and all our collaborators! We extend our sincere thanks to Prof. Xiang Gao and Prof. Yuanyuan Wang for their collaboration and support throughout this work.
Inspired by anoxygenic photosynthesis, we combined extracellular conjugated polymer nanoparticles as light-harvesting antennae with intracellular CdS nanoparticles in E. coli. The dual biohybrid couples light capture with intracellular redox chemistry and increases malate production by nearly 30-fold relative to unmodified cells. This study marks a milestone for our group’s biohybrid research and provides a modular design strategy for light-assisted microbial chemical production.
